Exploring POTA: A Journey from Greenville to Orlando HamCation
Gary NG9T and the author traveled from Greenville, NC, to Orlando for HamCation, stopping at various parks for POTA activations. Gary succeeded with CW contacts, while the author faced challenges with FT8 digital mode. RARS-fest 2024
After four years of pandemic, attending a Hamfest was a welcome change. The event featured various discussions and technology showcases, including a 12v power management system and a portable electronics workbench. Conversations centered around repairing repeaters, using packet radio, and teaching Esperanto for global communication. Old friends and acquaintances made the event memorable, signaling a successful gathering.
Ok, Call me a Shopper!
Peter N4PVH recently acquired an Icom D-Star/Analog repeater at a great price. With little knowledge on setting it up, he faces decisions on location, frequencies, and equipment. Despite challenges, he sees its potential for mobile and emergency use. Further research and tuning lie ahead.
